Trine 4: Various Character Concept Art

Trine 4 launch today on all platforms! Several character concepts I made for the Trine Series's newest addition Trine 4 the Nightmare Prince. I worked as a character artist and the art director for the project. I was dreaming to be able to make all the characters into finalized 3D models myself but had to delegate most of them to our other 3D character artist Maïté Vandewalle as leading the art department and the visual style of the game took the majority of my time. I'm glad I was able to make this many character concepts and the final models ended up looking really great.

Badger and Hedgehog are neighbors. Designing these characters was a perfect opportunity to bring out traditional anthropomorphic fairytale characteristics.

Moonshine, spirit of the air. Her elegant design was inspired by the magical Crystal Wing Moths that live in the Moonlit Woods. It is said that Moonshine can only be seen in moonlight, a bit like the nocturnal  moths that appear wherever she goes.

Elodea, spirit of the water. Elodea’s look was one of the most interesting to come up with. The idea of combining a gloomy bog environment with a mermaid.

Linden, spirit of the woods. The idea for the visual design came from the Blueberry Forest environment. There is wood, ferns and blueberries, but the more unique element for a dryad type creature is the skirt-like part inspired by the blueberry flower.

Aunt Gretchen. Amadeus’s long-time nightmare about his overpowering and possibly insane witch-aunt, who he was very very scared of when he was five and who curiously is strikingly similar-looking to Amadeus’s wife Margaret.

Princess Zoya is Zoya's nightmare. Zoya declined a royal marriage offer, but the prospect of having been Ridiculously Rich has been bothering Zoya ever since, especially because she isn’t really getting any younger.
